Rutgers Health / Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship

Program Overview

Dr. Navin Ariyaprakai

Welcome to the Newark Beth Israel EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship.

The EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship, accredited by the ACGME since 2012, has consistently produced outstanding EMS physicians who have gone on to practice both in the U.S. and internationally. This esteemed fellowship is backed by the RWJBarnabas Health Mobile Health Service, a leader in integrated EMS operations encompassing dispatch, 911 ambulances, Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICUs), Medevac and Specialty Care Transport Units (SCTUs). As one of the nation’s largest hospital-based EMS providers, Mobile Health offers fellows a broad spectrum of experiences across three key rotations: Medical Direction, Prehospital Care, and Special Operations.

Our fellows engage in hands-on medical direction on the scene, teaching, conducting annual assessments of prehospital clinicians, and responding to emergencies and large-scale incidents. They gain experience in tactical medical support with local and federal law enforcement, high-acuity transfers of critically ill patients—including ECMO and flight medicine—and much more. Our faculty and adjunct faculty are a distinguished group of board-certified and board-eligible EMS physicians who actively participate in the training and education of fellows, ensuring a progressive and enriching learning experience.
