Mammography & Breast Procedures

The Breast Center

Preparing for Your Mammogram

Try to schedule your mammogram just after your menstrual period, when your breasts are less tender.

For all breast diagnostic and intervention procedures, do not apply deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under the arm or near the breast prior to the exam. These products can show up on the x-ray image and make it difficult to interpret. Be sure to bring the name, address and phone number of your referring physician. If the center does not have your prior films and reports, please bring them with you.

Preparing for Your Breast Intervention Procedure

Any medication that you are taking, including aspirin should be discussed when you make your appointment. There are not diet restrictions prior to the procedure, but you may prefer a light meal so that you will be more comfortable. A two-piece outfit and bra should be worn. Jewelry is best left at home. Please arrive at the Breast Center 20 minutes before your appointment.

If you are having an intervention procedure jewelry is best left at home. Please discuss any additional preparation with your physician.
