Geriatric Medical Services at Somerset Campus
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has a dedicated geriatric unit focused on meeting the unique needs of the mature adult. Our professional staff members are trained in the provision of geriatric care, and treat all patients with respect and dignity. Their goal is to keep patients functioning at an optimal level, and to try to facilitate their return to their home environment.
The unit features:
- A family conference room with senior-specific health information
- A pet therapy program in which Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset volunteers and trained pets visit patients
- Prominently featured calendars, clocks and nursing staff lists to help patients maintain a frame of reference
- A wrist-band security system for patients with Alzheimer’s disease to allow them to be active yet remain in a safe environment
