For women of childbearing age, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital offers comprehensive family planning and preventative health services. From birth control to gynecological exams to treatment for sexually transmitted infections, we provide confidential, high quality health care at low or no cost.

Services We Provide

Birth Control

Birth control is also referred to as “contraceptives.” These are methods used to prevent a pregnancy. There are many safe and effective birth control methods and we provide all of them. Our staff of highly trained nurses, doctors and counselors will help you decide which one is best for you. Here is a list of birth control methods we provide:

  • Intrauterine device (IUD)
  • Implant – Nexplanon
  • Shot – Depo Provera
  • The pill
  • The ring – NuvaRing
  • The patch
  • Emergency contraception – also known as ”the morning after pill”
  • Natural family planning
  • Condoms (male and female)

Testing and Treatment for Sexually Transmitted Infection

Sexually transmitted infection (STIs, often referred to as “sexually transmitted diseases” or STDs) are infections spread from one person to another during sexual or intimate contact. Sexually transmitted infections are very common and may or may not cause symptoms, so you can have an infection and not know it. Our staff will give you a simple test and if you have an STI you will get the treatment you need. You can be tested and treated for the following STIs.

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Syphilis
  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Herpes

Other Services

Our specially trained staff will also provide the following based upon your needs:

  • Pap smear
  • Pregnancy testing, counseling and referrals
  • Infertility screening and referral
  • Pelvic and breast exams

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Planning Services

Who can get family planning services? Am I eligible?

Anyone who is old enough to get pregnant, regardless of your age, income or insurance status can get family planning services. The services are completely confidential. Teens can come on their own, they do not need permission from anyone.

Do I need insurance? How much will it cost?

You do not need insurance to get any family planning services. If you have insurance, please bring that information with you. If you don’t have insurance, services may be low or no cost, how much you will be asked to pay depends on your income. You will be charged based on a sliding fee scale. Nobody will be turned away, everyone will get the care they need, even if they don’t have the money.
