Alzheimer’s Disease Treatment
at the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Clinic at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, a progressive disease that causes people to lose cognitive function – thinking, remembering and reasoning – to such an extent that it interferes with their daily life and activities. Currently, there is no cure for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, but there is hope in the form of new early diagnostic methods and medications that can slow the progression of the disease.
At Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, we offer an innovative new treatment for patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease that has been proven to slow the progression of the disease by 25 percent. This treatment is called Leqembi, and it removes the buildup of amyloid protein and plaque in the brain that contributes to memory loss and cognitive decline due to Alzheimer’s disease. This treatment offers additional time and quality of life to those living with Alzheimer’s.
Leqembi is given as an infusion in an outpatient setting at our Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Clinic. The clinic is run by board-certified neurologist William Hu, MD, PhD, FAAN.
