Oncology Nurse Navigators
A diagnosis of cancer can be overwhelming. But, our oncology nurse navigators assist patients to help ease that burden.
RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute are home to one of the nation’s largest Oncology Navigation Programs staffed by nurses with a specialty in cancer. Located at each of our facilities across the state, our nurse navigators provide individualized personal assistance to patients and their caregivers. They serve as an important member of the patient’s healthcare team and help ease the stress and burden of a cancer diagnosis through coordination of care, providing guidance and answering questions, scheduling appointments and serving as a resource. , Our navigators also identify and address any barriers to care and ensure a seamless coordination of services between all members of your healthcare team, even if they are located at different locations across the health system.
Our oncology nurse navigators also assist patients with referrals to social workers or financial counselors for matters pertaining to health insurance, financial and other challenges, and cancer prevention – including cancer screenings.
Our Oncology Nurse Navigation Program is at the forefront of the navigation field. They participate in national meetings, provide guidance on policy and procedures, and serve as a model for other cancer programs across the country.
