The Balance Center
Balance & the Inner Ear
Our balance system, or vestibular system, helps us walk, run, and move without falling. Signals to the brain from the eyes, inner ear and other sensory systems of the body, such as skin, control our balance.
An audiologist provides people with impaired balance, dizziness or vertigo non-invasive testing to determine individual needs. Working with the patient, and sometimes a multi-disciplinary treatment team, the audiologist can help improve impaired balance, and reduce risk of falls.
Vestibular therapy is available for:
- Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
- Labyrinthitis
- Vestibular neuritis
- Ménière’s disease
- Inner ear concussion syndrome
- Traumatic brain injury
- CVA/stroke
- Post-concussion syndrome
