Trauma Center
Port Authority Heroes of September 11 Trauma Center
Named for all those who gave the most on September 11, the Regional Trauma Center is the state designated Level II Trauma Center for Hudson County. In addition to its responsibility for the region's growing community neighborhoods and sprawling business districts, the Trauma Center and the hospital's emergency medical service cover the County's waterways, New Jersey Turnpike, Holland and Lincoln Tunnels and Liberty State Park. The Center provides 24 hour trauma surgery for adults and children. The Center has been active in all regional disasters including the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, several train derailments and HAZMAT incidents, Presidential Visits, and was New Jersey's major responder on and after September 11.
Programs offered by the Trauma Center at Jersey City Medical Center include:
Project HUDSON (Helping Us Develop Strength in Our Neighborhoods), a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP) whose goals are to: reduce the risk for those who have been injured from being violently injured again; provide support to promote a healthier perspective and outlook on life; provide victims of interpersonal violence with tools and strategies for success once they leave the hospital; improve the overall physical and mental health of our community; and assist community members who are at-risk for violence with connections to resources.
As a member of the Safe Kids Hudson County Coalition, the Trauma Center makes available the following programs and resources to residents of Hudson County:
- Child passenger safety community workshops and events
