RWJBarnabas Health Centralized Pharmacy Warehouse

The Centralized Pharmacy Warehouse provides non-compounded products to all RWJBH hospitals. The Centralized Warehouse model allows for the procurement of bulk, reduced- cost purchases and the direct purchases of products on national shortage. Direct purchases prevents interruptions in supply chain management and patient care.

Specific products are brought into the warehouse as needed based on mitigation for future possible supply interruptions and prior to known price increases. Smart bulk purchases lead to large cost savings to the RWJBH system.

In 2023, the Centralized Warehouse continued its support of the RWJBarnabas Health System by procuring products that were short in supply. Specific items included: Bicillin, Cleocin, Solu-Medrol, Solu-Cortef, & Heparin. 2023 was also a very difficult year in the procurement of many oncology products. Such products included: Carboplatin, Cisplatin, Fluorouracil, Decitabine, Dacarbazine, Methotrexate, & Vinblastine. This crucial procurement was able to take place through the key partnerships and direct accounts with important manufacturers and other distributors.

In addition, in 2023, the Centralized Warehouse had over $ 2 million dollars of savings to the system. The Centralized Warehouse was also able to provide another $900,000 of products that were in short supply.

Flu vaccine procurement and dispensing to the system hospitals continued in 2023.

Over 37,000 doses of Fluarix, 11,000 doses of Fluzone, and 5,500 doses of Fluzone High Dose were sent out to system hospitals and affiliates.

For 2024, the goal is to continue to expand our bulk cost-savings model by bringing in high usage, high dollar products. We will continue to strengthen our partnerships with manufacturers and vendors to bring in any product that the system may need during supply chain interruptions in 2024.
