Monday, Wednesday-Friday: 8am-5pm
Tuesday: 11am-8pm
One Saturday each month (contact for appointment date)

U.S. News & World ReportRobert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Diabetes Center provides an individualized program for self-management of diabetes, as well as educational services for outpatients and their families. The center’s goal is to provide people with diabetes the opportunity to live as normal and as full a life as possible.

The center, established in 1996, has been awarded its fourth three-year Education Recognition Certificate from the American Diabetes Association for continuing to meet national standards for quality diabetes self-management education.

The Diabetes Center offers:

  • One-on-one educational counseling
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Meal planning and nutritional counseling
  • Information on preventing complications
  • Resource management
  • Exercise planning
  • Insulin pump therapy by certified pump trainers
  • Psychosocial counseling
  • Family support
  • A gestational program for those with diabetes only during pregnancy

  • Diabetes overview
  • Nutrition (includes meal planning and carbohydrate counting)
  • Fitness guidelines
  • Stress and weight management
  • Medications
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Foot care
  • Community resources
  • Behavioral goal-setting

Support Groups
Our support group at the hospital is Living Well with Diabetes (adult group), which is held quarterly. For dates, call 908-685-2846.

Our Staff
Directed by a board certified endocrinologist, the staff includes a clinical nurse specialist, an advanced practice nurse, certified diabetes nurse educators, registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators.
