LGBTQIA Program

Medical Care for the New Jersey LGBTQIA Community

At our facilities, we strive to meet the diverse health care needs of our community. The LGBTQIA program is part of our initiative to provide quality health care to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA) community. Our hospitals and medical centers are welcoming, inclusive environments where people from all walks of life can seek the medical care they need.

Nationally Recognized Diversity Programs

LGBTQIA services are not specialized medical services, rather, they are policies intended to eliminate the disparities in care LGBTQIA patients often face when seeking medical care. Several of our hospitals have been awarded the Leader in LGBTQIA Healthcare Equality recognition by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This requires us to meet certain criteria:

  • Ensure foundational protection for patients, visitors and staff in patient and staff policies and provide cultural competency training on LGBTQIA inclusion
  • Demonstrate progress toward inclusion on LGBTQIA patient care and support
  • Cultivate an inclusive workforce by providing LGBTQ-inclusive employee support and benefits
  • Demonstrate public commitment to the LGBTQIA community

Our staff regularly creates and attends community events that promote LGBTQIA inclusion. We also aim to educate the community to counteract misleading information regarding common health concerns in the LGBTQIA community.
