NOTE: This course is only for Licensed Athletic Trainers who live or work in the Mercer County area of NJ

There are many degrees of shoulder instability, and Dr. Duch will review treatment approaches to address. ATs will learn therapy and rehab options to various surgical options, and concepts for when both approaches are necessary. This presentation will review expected outcomes of these various treatment options and realistic return to play guidelines.

Objectives:

-Athletic Trainers will be able to determine when is rehabilitative therapy is beneficial for shoulder instability.

-Athletic Trainers will be able to screen for signs of when is surgery is a potential need for shoulder instability.

-Attendees will be able to clarify expectations to return to play based upon sport and degree of injury

-Attendees will understand the downfalls of surgery, specifically for for throwing athletes.

BIO: Dr. Michael R. Duch has over 20 years of experience treating a range of orthopedic conditions, including sports medicine injuries, throughout the body. Dr. Duch specializes in joint replacement surgery for knees, hips and shoulders, as well as surgical and non-surgical fracture care. Through comprehensive, integrated collaboration with physical therapists, occupational therapists and pain management providers, Dr. Duch provides advanced non-surgical treatment options to enhance patients’ healing and recovery.

Dr. Duch graduated from Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed a general surgery internship at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Temple University’s Hospital Program in Philadelphia, Pa. He went on to complete his fellowship in sports medicine at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Oh. He is a member of the Medical Society of New Jersey and Mercer County Medical Society.
