Kidz Kare Junior Council

Kidz Kare hospital-based youth council

The Kidz Kare, a volunteer junior council for The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, is among the nation’s first hospital-based youth councils. As a hospital dedicated to children, it is important for staff to understand what children need to make them feel most comfortable.

The Kidz Kare Junior Council, whose main purpose is to support Children’s Hospital patients, helps to provide important insights into what kids want.

Kidz Kare was established under the auspices of Susan Dulczak, Clinical Director of the Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center. Today the group has elected officers, a mission statement, and regular meetings that include the planning of fundraisers and purchases for pediatric inpatients, such as a flat-screen TV for every inpatient room and comfortable reclining chairs for parents staying with children in the hospital. Their first fundraiser raised more than $30,000 and was attended by almost 200 guests.
