Non-Surgical Weight Loss

New Jersey Weight Management Programs

Weight loss surgery, while it can be effective, is a last resort response for obesity treatment. For patients that are not at immediate risk of an obesity-related complication, nutritional counseling and exercise will be a safe, noninvasive means of achieving a healthier weight.

What Is Nutritional Counseling?

A key factor in managing weight is learning more about nutrients, what they do, and how your body processes them. Different people respond to food differently, meaning there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to weight loss diets. A nutritionist performs a thorough assessment of your condition in order to create a personalized diet tailored for your body.

If you are not a candidate for weight loss surgery, or you can still achieve a healthy weight without surgical intervention, participating in nutritional counseling is highly recommended. Even if you do undergo bariatric surgery, you will still need to receive nutritional counseling as making dietary changes are a necessary part of follow-up care. Creating a healthier diet before resorting to surgery spares you the risk of surgical complications and side effects.
