Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Surgery
In the US, about 1 in 1,050 babies is born with a cleft lip (with or without a cleft palate), and about 1 in 1,600 babies is born with a cleft palate alone. The pediatric surgeons at RWJBarnabas Health who specialize in treating these birh defects — in which a baby's lip or mouth don't form properly — are highly trained in the surgical techniques needed to close up the openings and ensure the best possible cosmetic outcome. We have two centers dedicated to cleft lip and cleft palate surgery.

Cleft Palate Center
The Cleft Palate Center at Monmouth Medical Center is one of five regional referral centers in the state established by the New Jersey Department of Health for children born with clefts. All patients are treated, regardless of ability to pay.

Rutgers Health Cleft Craniofacial Program at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital
Adults and children are treated at Rutgers Health Cleft Palate-Craniofacial program. Our specialists provide expert, compassionate care. Our physicians are on the faculty of Robert Wood Johnson University Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America, and surgeries are conducted at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital in New Brunswick.
