Post Operative Care for Outpatient Genital Surgical Procedures
Circumcision or Revision of Circumcision
- Bath the next day is ok. Taking a bath is also good to reduce swelling. Swimming in the pool is fine in 3 days. No sports for 5-7 days.
- Take any medication as prescribed.
- You don’t need to put anything on the operative site. No dressings, creams or gels. There is a protective glue on the area.
- Follow up with your urologist in 2 weeks or as directed.
Hernia, Hydrocele or Undescended Testicle Operation
- Bath the next day is ok. Taking a bath is also good to reduce swelling. Swimming in the pool is fine in 3 days. No sports for 5-7 days.

Meatoplasty
- Can resume all normal activities the next day.
- Apply Neosporin to the tip twice a day to keep it moist.
- Can take a bath or shower the same day.
- Follow up in the office as directed.
Hypospadias
- Most of our patients do not go home with a catheter.
- No bath for 3 days following the surgery. Keep the area dry but you can sponge bath your child.
- There is a protective glue on the area so you don’t need to put any wraps or bandages on the area.
- Apply a small amount of Neosporin to the tip where the urine comes out twice a day.
- On the fourth day, you should put your child in a tub and let him soak for 10 minutes. Do not rub the area.
- Before your child gets out of the tub, you can do a quick soap wash with a baby soap, just do not wash the surgical area.
- Blot the area dry. Do not rub the area.
- Take all medications as directed.
- Follow up in the office as directed.
