Advanced Surgical Options for Pediatric Patients
Our pediatric surgeons are among the most experienced in New Jersey. Each year, we perform thousands of pediatric surgical procedures, including lifesaving emergency surgeries and routine procedures on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our pediatric surgeons are board certified in general as well as pediatric surgery.
Meet Our Pediatric Surgery Team
We offer a variety of pediatric surgical procedures — from routine surgery and same-day procedures to more complicated cases — for children of all ages.
RWJBarnabas Health has achieved recognition by the American College of Surgeons-MBSAQIP (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program) as an Accredited Center for Adolescent Bariatric Surgery. Also, The Pediatric Trauma Center has been verified by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
These designations recognize our commitment to a high standard of delivery of quality patient care and safety, and means that we meet nationally and internationally recognized standards.
Customized Care for Kids
Our Pediatric General Surgery Program is one of only a few full-service surgical programs in New Jersey devoted exclusively to children’s care. We work closely with patients and families to prepare them for their procedure and ultimately provide seamless and comprehensive care. Our specially trained surgeons also operate on children ranging from newborns through adolescents.
All routine and relatively simple pediatric general surgery operations are performed in a congenial, same-day surgery setting. Parents are with their child most of the time, even in the recovery room.
To relieve anxieties or fears about surgery, our pediatric preoperative programs, led by Child Life specialists, feature:
- Orientation tours
- Interactive presentations
- Medical play
- Opportunities for children to ask questions

Minimally Invasive Surgery
As a leading New Jersey health care provider — especially when it comes to pediatric surgical care — we are proud to be a leader when it comes to advanced surgical options.
Minimally invasive surgery is any technique involved in surgery that does not need a large incision. This relatively new approach allows the patient to recuperate faster with less pain. Not all conditions are suitable for minimally invasive surgery. Many surgery techniques now fall under minimally invasive surgery.
When you bring your child to one of our facilities to discuss surgery, you can always talk with our compassionate physicians about the available surgical options.
Your pediatric surgeon will work with your child and you to find the perfect surgical care plan to deliver the best outcome.
