- Arthroscopy. This minimally invasive procedure uses fiber optic lighting directed through a thin tube (arthroscope), which is inserted along with a tiny camera into the affected joint. This can be done for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, hip and ankle. Arthroscopy allows the surgeon to view the joint and repair the damage caused by injury or disease by using smaller incisions. Smaller incisions tend to cause less pain and quicker recovery times than in traditional open surgeries.
