Neuroscience
Renowned Brain, Spine and Neuromuscular Care Center
RWJBarnabas Health provides comprehensive care for a full spectrum of neurological disorders affecting adults and children. Neuroscience continues to be a dynamic field of study and we are constantly learning more and more about how our brains work and what can be done for individuals who suffer from neurological issues.
Our outstanding team of nationally and internationally respected neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuropsychologists is advancing the diagnosis and treatment of complex conditions of the brain and nervous system. Our neurosurgeons are among the most experienced in New Jersey and use leading-edge, minimally invasive and noninvasive surgical options whenever possible to help patients regain mobility and return to the regular activities of their daily lives.
From state-designated comprehensive stroke centers, to sophisticated movement disorder programs, Level 4 epilepsy centers in Livingston and New Brunswick, and the most advanced care for brain tumor treatment and management, our clinicians’ research has yielded a variety of innovative techniques that distinguish our system as a destination for the treatment of a broad range of brain, spine and neuromuscular disorders.
Backed by the full resources of one of the state’s most comprehensive health care systems, the RWJBarnabas Health neuroscience program offers the latest diagnostic technologies, innovative therapies and patient resources to ensure precise, effective treatments with a focus on the individual.
You can be confident about placing your trust in a program that has earned national recognition and is committed to delivering innovative, comprehensive and compassionate care to children and adults.
Together, we’re providing world-class treatment without the need to travel a world away.

An Innovative Leader Advancing State-of-the-Art Care
Using leading-edge technology, our neurosurgeons and neurologists improve accuracy and efficiency, make our procedures less risky and less painful than conventional surgery, and shorten recovery time. Some of the advanced technologies we use include:
- Gamma knife radiosurgery technology. Gamma Knife is a non-surgical, non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery device that allows our neurologists to pinpoint the damaged areas of the brain with extreme accuracy and deliver a high dose of radiation to destroy the damaged cells.
- The ClearPoint Navigation System. This system is designed to provide highly accurate guidance for the placement and operation of instruments or devices during neurological surgery and procedures using 3D magnetic resonance imaging. At Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, ClearPoint is used in conjunction with New Jersey’s only intraoperative MRI – an MRI that is located inside of the operating suite - which reduces the length of the surgery and eliminates the need to move the patient during the surgery.
- The ROSA ONE Brain robotic system. The ROSA robotic platform assists surgeons in planning and performing complex yet minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures, ranging from epilepsy surgery and functional neurosurgery to endoscopy.
