Instructions for Your Test or Procedure

Nuclear Medicine Gastric Procedure
Gastric Emptying
Note: This test is only scheduled on Fridays.
The Day Before Your Procedure
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight.
The Day of Your Procedure
Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
You will be given a breakfast of scrambled eggs (with a radioactive material mixed in - no taste), toast and orange juice.
Four one-minute images will be taken over a four-hour time period. You do not have to remain in the building for the entire four hours. You may not eat or drink until the procedure is completed.
Liver Hemangioma (RBC Liver, Tagged Red Blood Cell Liver)
The Day of Your Procedure
Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
An IV line will be placed in your arm.
You will have blood drawn for tagging to radioactive material and then you will be re-injected 30 minutes later.
Once we begin, imaging will take approximately 40 minutes. You must keep your arms over your head and be still during the scan.
You may leave and then return an hour-and-a-half after the completion of first set of images.
You will be re-imaged for 40 minutes, with your arms over your head. You must not move during scan.
This procedure takes approximately three hours.
