Home phlebotomy is a blood-drawing service provided by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset's Laboratory that enables you to receive the high-quality laboratory services you've come to expect from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in the convenience of your own home. It is designed for patients who are homebound and unable to come to the laboratory for testing.
What to Expect
Once it has been determined that you are eligible for home phlebotomy services, your doctor will notify the Home Phlebotomy Department at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. This can be done by calling 908-685-2982 or by faxing the request to 908-231-6149.
The physician must document on the laboratory request form that it is medically necessary for you to receive the service and that you are eligible for home phlebotomy services.We will work with your doctor to obtain all laboratory orders and required insurance information. Your primary care physician (PCP) or designated practitioner is the only person who can order this service for you.
Scheduling an Appointment
Once the Home Phlebotomy Department receives a request from your doctor, a laboratory representative will call you to schedule an appointment. A laboratory representative will call you the day before your appointment as a reminder.
On the day of your appointment, your phlebotomist will call you with an approximate time of arrival. If you cannot keep your appointment, please call 908-685-2982 to reschedule. Home phlebotomy services are available Tuesday through Thursday, excluding holidays.
Our staff is comprised of certified phlebotomists with extensive experience. All phlebotomists will wear a photo identification badge to identify themselves. Typically, you will see the same phlebotomist each time you have blood drawn to help you feel more comfortable.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset's Laboratory is a full-service
laboratory that includes a Blood Donor Program. The laboratory is accredited
by the College of American Pathologists, The Joint Commission, the American
Association of Blood Banks and the New Jersey Department
of Health and Senior Services. It is also inspected and approved by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
