Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset is nationally recognized for the high-quality cardiac care we provide to our community. We are one of only two hospitals in New Jersey to receive the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for our acute myocardial infarction program (care of heart attack patients) and have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as “high performing” in the care of congestive heart failure patients. The hospital has also earned a 5-star rating for Pacemaker Procedure outcomes from Healthgrades, the leading resource connecting consumers, physicians and health systems. RWJUH Somerset has received the 2023 Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades, ranking in the top 10% of hospitals across the country for cardiology services and among the top 10% of hospitals in the nation for coronary interventional procedures. The hospital ranks #3 in New Jersey for Cardiology, according to Healthgrades.

The hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory offers emergency and elective coronary angioplasty, cardiac catheterizations and pacemaker implantations, including the world’s smallest leadless pacemaker. The hospital’s cardiology services comprise a full range of diagnostic services, including electrocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac ultrasound testing, transesophageal echocardiogram, pediatric diagnostic services and tilt table testing.
A three-phase cardiac rehabilitation program is offered in Hillsborough for patients who have recently suffered a heart attack or who are recovering from an angioplasty, cardiac surgery or heart transplant.

Our Facilities

RWJUH Somerset recently completed a renovation project to modernize and consolidate all of our cardiology services, including diagnostic testing, on the hospital’s second floor. Its Cardiology Pavilion features private patient rooms, new wireless telemetry technology and the GetWellNetwork interactive patient care system. The newly renovated Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Department offers state-of-the-art technologies in a convenient setting that enhances the privacy and comfort of our patients.

In addition, the hospital recently renovated one of its three cardiac catheterization labs. The new lab features the Azurion with FlexArm image guided therapy system from Philips Health Care, which delivers high quality imaging with low X-ray dose levels. The cardiac catheterization laboratory renovations included the addition of eight spacious, private bed bays where patients prepare for and recover from their procedures and an isolation patient room as well as updated interior design finishes.
