Teen / High School Volunteers
Weekday opportunities are from 4 to 6 p.m. for ages 15 and up, or 6 to 8 p.m. for ages 16 and up.
Our Volunteer program is for teens who want to serve their community in a world-class health care setting. Teen volunteer opportunities are available mornings, afternoons and evenings, seven days a week. RWJ Volunteers support the hospital by greeting, directing and escorting visitors, visiting patients on nursing floors, and discharging patients.
Volunteer Service Requirements:
- Age: 15 to 18 years old (must have completed ninth grade)
- Getting to know you: Answer interview questions regarding skills and experience levels
- Time Commitment: The minimum time commitment is 75 hours of service per year. Our hope is for volunteers to be available 2-3 hours on a weekly basis.
- Volunteer Orientation Class: Attendance at orientation for new volunteers

Medical clearance
- Health attestation form (completed by personal physician) to include TB screening, immunization status, flu vaccine (during designated time frame) with review and support from RWJ Corporate Care/Employee Health
- Urine Drug Screen (conducted at RWJ Corporate Care/Employee Health at no charge to volunteer)
- Dress Code: all volunteers are required to wear the provided volunteer uniform/ T-shirt
- Volunteers MUST be fully vaccinated
- Please be aware that we do not offer internships or shadowing opportunities.
We make it easy for interested teens to get started: To begin the Volunteer registration process and receive an application, the teen must email Volunteer Director Jacob Persily at Jacob.Persily@rwjbh.org. Please note that we are unable to send applications at a parent’s request.
