College Volunteers
Rutgers HPO/RWJ Volunteer Intensive Program
This program is a special collaboration with the Rutgers Health Professions Office. It offers current Rutgers-New Brunswick students the opportunity for a limited one-semester volunteer commitment of 50 hours. The HPO/RWJ VIP is offered three times a year to coincide with the academic calendar (fall, spring, summer). When accepted into the program, volunteers will commit to one four-hour shift in a selected department for a minimum of 50 hours of service in 15 weeks.
To be eligible for this program, students must have the following:
- A file in the Health Professions Office for at least a month, along with at least one recorded appointment with an HPO advisor (on HPOdrome)
- Completed at least one semester at Rutgers, New Brunswick
- Completed at least one semester of General Biology or General Chemistry with a grade of B or better. If students have AP credit for those courses they must have a least one graded science course on their transcript with a B or better.
- Must have an overall AND science GPA (on HPOdrome) of 3.0 or higher
Interested students meeting the above qualifications should forward their name and RUID# to Christine Centrone (ccentrone@dls.rutgers.edu) at Rutgers HPO to be prescreened. Qualified students will be forwarded the application and will be required to attend an application orientation meeting by Zoom.
Prescreening and distribution of applications will be starting at the end of July. An announcement will be sent to Rutgers New Brunswick students on the HPO Listserv.
Please do not complete the online volunteer profile form. Doing so will complicate the application process and may result in exclusion from the program.
Other College Students
All other college students, including other students at Rutgers, are encouraged to complete the Adult Volunteer Profile form for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
