Nutrition and Support for Weight Loss
Nutrition plays a huge role in bariatric surgery both before and after the procedure. A balanced and safe nutrition program is an integral key to the lifestyle change that comes with bariatric surgery.
You will work closely throughout the program with our dietitian to analyze your past diet regimens and you will learn how to achieve a totally balanced diet.

Bariatric Medical Wellness Programs
As part of the continued support services for bariatric surgery patients at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a supervised exercise program was developed in conjunction with our partners at RWJ Fitness & Wellness Center.
Once you are cleared by your physician, you will need to incorporate an exercise program into your daily routine.
The program offers both adult and adolescent patients a physician-supervised exercise program and is overseen by specially-trained exercise professionals.
About the Program
- 8 weeks (1 hour, 2 days per week)
- Small groups, no larger than six members per class
- Classes held in a private studio
- Bariatric sensitivity training given to all physiologists
- Your routine follow-up testing conveniently tracked through the program.
Bariatric Surgery Information Sessions
For many, the weight-loss journey begins by attending one of our information seminars. Seminars provide patients with the chance to meet our physicians, ask questions and address concerns they may have about surgery. It’s also an opportunity to connect with other potential and former patients.
Sessions are held virtually at 7 p.m. at both our New Brunswick and Old Bridge locations as follows (click location name for more details):
- New Brunswick: The last Wednesday of every month
- Old Bridge (Parlin): The second Wednesday of every month
