Preprocedure Testing for Patients During COVID-19
Prior to having a procedure, surgery, testing or admission to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, you may be asked to undergo testing for COVID-19 in order to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.
Patients scheduled for a procedure or test that requires COVID-19 testing
will be contacted by a member of the RWJUH team to schedule an appointment
at our new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site, located adjacent to the hospital.
The RWJUH COVID-19 drive-thru testing is by appointment only. Patients and parents or guardians will be able to remain in their vehicle for the duration of the COVID-19 testing.
Patients are required to:
- Bring a form of identification
- Wear a face mask or covering
Once the patient arrives, they will be asked to confirm their identity. If the patient is under 18 years old, a parent or guardian will be asked to confirm their identity.
Patients will be asked to swab each nostril for 10 seconds with a provided cotton swab. If the patient is unable to do so themselves, a nurse will assist.
Please watch the video below for more information on the testing process at our COVID-19 drive-thru testing site:
After the COVID-19 test, patients are asked to continue to do the following:
- Self-quarantine following testing and up until the day of surgery
- Social distance and wear a mask in their place of self-quarantine, when appropriate
- Immediately inform their physician if there is any close contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19
- Immediately inform their physician if there is any close contact with a person with symptoms consistent with COVID-19
- Immediately inform their physician if they develop any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 while in self-quarantine: cough, fever, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste or any type of respiratory illness
