Thoracic Surgery
FOR A REFERRAL TO AN RWJ THORACIC SURGEON, CALL 888.MD.RWJUH.
A surgery performed on organs in the chest cavity (or thorax), including heart, lungs and esophagus, is considered thoracic surgery. A thoracic surgeon focuses on the lungs and esophagus, while a cardiovascular or cardiac surgeon performs surgery on the heart.
Our thoracic surgery program is primarily focused on non-cardiac thoracic pathology, including lung cancer. Lung cancer diagnosis, staging and treatment are important aspects of thoracic surgery, including tumor removal for diagnosis and staging, and resection and lobotomy for treatment.
