Rehabilitation usually begins the day of surgery with an evaluation, and treatment begins as soon as possible. Our therapists help you rebuild your strength so that you are able to function independently after discharge and recovery quickly.

Ultimately, patients are sent home for further rehabilitation, where he or she can heal and build strength in his or her natural environment. Physical therapy at RWJ Hamilton includes exercises that simulate your home environment, for example, steps you may need to climb or getting in and out of your vehicle.

Your joint replacement team, including physical therapist, occupational therapist and case manager make sure you have the tools you need to stay mobile and transition into full recovery, for example, a rolling walker, commode and tub bench. Your case manager will work with you to ensure you receive physical therapy at home.
