The Beth Greenhouse, located at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) and Children’s
Hospital of New Jersey (CHoNJ),
provides access to fresh, nutritious, affordable produce to residents of the South Ward
and surrounding communities.
The Greenhouse strengthens and expands NBIMC’s KidsFit nutrition
education program by adding a comprehensive
sustainable food systems educational component to the current Kindergarten – Grade 8 curriculum, and developing
a wellness and food systems education program for high school students.
It provides
on-the-job training, internships, and employment opportunities for local youth, persons with disabilities, re-entry participants, NBIMC
Behavioral Health clients and recently returned veterans.
The Greenhouse supports health and wellness activities at the
Reverend Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center, and serves as an intergenerational “neighborhood hub and learning
lab” where a diverse community can participate in gardening activities,
exchange recipes, obtain plant starts for their home gardens and learn
about the importance of good nutrition.
The Beth Greenhouse is located at the corner of Osborne Terrace and Lehigh Avenue.
