The Beth Garden completes our wellness initiatives and provides access to the very foods we teach people to eat. What began as an indoor farmer’s market in the lobby of our medical center grew into a working farm in a vacant lot across the street from the emergency department. The project was developed in partnership with
Shaping NJ and
Garden State Urban Farms. Today the farm produces a wide variety of greens, herbs, vegetables and fruits and provides a wonderful hub where our diverse community gathers and exchanges recipes.
As we look towards the future, our goal is to transform The Beth Garden to
The Beth Greenhouse. This sustainable hydroponic greenhouse will annually produce more than 20,000 pounds of high quality, nutritious, locally grown vegetables and herbs. Produce will be sold to residents, schools and local bodegas.
The Beth Greenhouse is a unique way to educate community residents, provide year-round needed access to healthy foods, and provide job training opportunities for ex-offenders.
The Beth Garden accepts vouchers from the following programs:
W.I.C., Senior Farmers Market, and shortly the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
