Amanda B Words of Appreciation for Maternity Team

"We always felt cared for and supported. We couldn’t be more grateful for the care we received."

We were surprisingly sent to the Perinatal Evaluation and Treatment (PET) Unit on the Maternity Floor at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center after my 38-week appointment and found out they would be admitting and inducing me. Despite this being shocking news, from the minute we arrived, we were made to feel comfortable by the nurses and doctors in the PET unit until we were moved to Labor and Delivery (L&D).

Once we arrived in L&D, the entire team was calming and clear about the next steps of what may happen. Once we found out we'd be having to have an emergency C-section, the nurse and attending on the team explained why we'd be doing it, and how the process would go. They made us feel as calm and confident going into the procedure as possible.

What I truly found most amazing, and perhaps this was just fortuitous, was the entire team in the Operating Room was female. As a woman who very much cared about having female OBs, this was truly comforting and empowering to see.

Once I was moved to recovery and post-partum, and our baby was moved to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the same team of attendings came to check on me each day and I did not see a different doctor. The nurses were caring, compassionate and answered every question I had. I never felt like I was passed off to a different doctor or nurse and they always made sure the transition from nurse to nurse was smooth. We always felt cared for and supported in both the NICU and the post-partum unit.

Our entire stay which was 4 nights and 5 days was positive, painless and helpful as we left were our new baby girl. The NICU nurses and staff made us feel comfortable and knowledgeable upon leaving and we left feeling like our baby had received the best care she could have and we felt supported and confident taking her home.

We couldn't be more grateful for the care we received while there.

Sincerely, The Buyes Family
