"James was able to reach his goals."
In the video above, Janelle Lenzo-Werner, Occupational Therapy Supervisor at Children’s Specialized Hospital, describes how James gained mobility and capability that enabled him to ride a bicycle and do other everyday tasks he couldn’t have done before.
James, a teenager with special needs who has received care for years at Children’s Specialized Hospital, wanted to ride his bike around town. Because of tightness in his wrist and arm, he wasn’t able to do that. The tightness limited his mobility and his ability to do other things that people his age are able to do.
Doctors and therapists from RWJBarnabas Health’s children’s hospitals collaborated to optimize a plan for James, including surgery and intensive occupational therapy. This collaboration is a hallmark of the innovative RWJBarnabas Health Pediatric Orthopedic Multidisciplinary Program in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
As part of this program, Children’s Specialized Hospital and Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital – in coordination with Deidre Bielicka, MD, a pediatric surgeon and hand and extremities specialist from RWJBarnabas Health’s Pediatric Orthopedic program (part of the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group) – helped James to reach his goals.
