They denied me of normal relationships.
They made me believe they were my everything.
They stole my innocence.
They took away my voice.

I said no, but they demanded yes.
They demanded total loyalty.
They brainwashed me to love and give up everything for them.
They turned me into a victim.
They made me weak and dependent.

But,
I am holding my head high
And I am taking my power back.

I let them keep me in my grasp for years.
I was scared to make a move.
I used to cower and hide.
I used to smile and say everything was fine.

But,
I am holding my head high
And I am taking my power back.

I learned to fear the world.
I learned to like being alone.
I didn’t want anyone to know my pain.
But I wanted everyone to know my pain.

But,
I am holding my head high
And I am taking my power back.

I am a woman, proud and strong.
I refuse to remain a victim.
I will not be passive anymore.
I will be assertive and speak my truth.
I will not hide from the world anymore because
I matter and what I have to offer this world matters.
I will not be silent anymore.

I am becoming a butterfly emerging from a cocoon.
I am ready to spread my wings.
I am finding my voice again.
