While some may think that being at a hospital during this global pandemic would be nerve-wrecking, everyone I came into contact with made me feel safe, calm and comfortable.
Kassie Brikowski had a difficult labor and unplanned caesarian section while giving birth to her first-born child a few years ago. When it came time to give birth to her second son, she found herself with a new set of challenges. On April 14, 2020, Kassie brought a new life into this world at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“While some may think that being at a hospital during this global pandemic would be nerve-wrecking, everyone I came into contact with made me feel safe, calm and comfortable,” Kassie recalled.
During her caesarian section, the anesthesiologist, Mohan H. Kulkarni, MD, calmed her nerves, both literally and figuratively, while the doctors and nurses assisting with the birth ensured everything went as smooth as possible. Kassie’s husband stayed with her for the entire 36 hours that she was in the hospital.
Now that they are home from the hospital, Kassie and her family are taking every precaution to keep them safe from this virus, including not allowing visitors. “I don’t mind not being able to have visitors. It gives my family and me more time to bond during one of the most critical times in our child’s life,” Kassie says.
