“The result of Paul’s TAVR was excellent, with an improvement in valve size from critical narrowing to essentially normal. Utilizing a standard minimalist approach, Paul was able to be discharged home in less than 12 hours,” said Dr. Torre.
At 69 years old, Paul Russo was experiencing worsening shortness of breath and his physician noticed a heart murmur. He was referred to the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) program and was seen in consultation by interventional cardiologist Sabino Torre, MD, and heart surgeon Arash Salemi, MD.
“I went to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for a heart valve replacement in the early morning of Monday, January 11. Under the care of Dr. Torre and all the wonderful nurses, the procedure was quicker and way less painful than I anticipated. I was told I would be held until the following morning and was delighted to find out that I was doing so well I'd be able to leave in the evening of that same day. It has now been 72+ hours since my procedure and most of my discomfort has disappeared and I am feeling much better. I cannot stress enough how kind and attentive everyone was and I thank you all so very much!” Paul shared.
