“I have to commend the staff at the medical center. We were treated with the utmost respect and competence.”
Francesca Marie Cwynar, shares the wonderful experience she had while giving birth and being cared for at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Her baby, Jameson, was delivered by Joann Somers, MD, an OB/GYN at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center along with RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, who also delivered Francesca about 35 years prior.
“My husband and I recently had a baby at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. It was full circle moment, as my doctor, Dr. Joann Somers, delivered me at the formerly called Saint Barnabas Medical Center about 35 years ago, and now, she delivered my son.
Out of an abundance of caution, we were admitted a few weeks before my due date as I had a spike in blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancy. Our baby had also been in the wrong position the entirety of my pregnancy, but decided to flip that week. I was induced and although hopes were high that he would be born naturally, some more irregularities in blood pressure and a cervix that didn't dilate meant that he would join us via C-section.
I have to commend the staff at the medical center. We were treated with the utmost respect and competence. The nursing staff were profound in their nurturing ways and their ability to soothe through challenging and vulnerable times. We wanted to acknowledge the team that helped us navigate this transformative, but challenging, journey.
In labor and delivery, I needed a magnesium treatment for my blood pressure and was in rough shape. The doctors and nurses there were just exemplary in helping me find strength and comfort through the wee hours of the night. Jenn, Taylor, Shiney, and Erin, just to name a few people, were so appreciated.
Our sweet baby, Jameson, ended up in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for a day and was treated with the utmost care and gentleness by a remarkable nurse, Anne Marie. She took time to teach us and assure us, and I am beyond grateful we had the chance to be in her presence. After meeting her, my husband and I both felt more equipped to care for our son.
Once I was more lucid and began to move around, I had the privilege of being cared for by another cohort of exceptional nurses and doctors. We made friends with many on our floor. Everyone from the housekeeping (Hi Laura!) to the nurse assistants, lifted my spirits as I tried to regulate my blood pressure. A special thanks to an amazing bunch of individuals: Maggie who was so maternal and joyful, Kia with her expansive knowledge and reassurance, Gracie, Isabella, and Ingrid.
I cannot adequately thank the team at CBMC for making the wild journey and extended stay of the birth of our sweet boy Jameson, something we were able to navigate with more grace and ease. Healthcare workers are heroes; this we all know. But I experienced firsthand the extent of their selflessness and I won't soon forget how it felt to be cared for at my most vulnerable time. Thank you so, so, sincerely!”
