While most people who have had COVID-19 recover within weeks, there is a population of survivors whose COVID recovery time is much longer.
Some people experience continuing respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. Others may experience chronic fatigue and muscle pain. These individuals are sometimes called “long-haulers.”
Symptoms can be severe enough that COVID long-haulers cannot return to work or exercise.
Does this sound like you or someone you know?
The Post-COVID-19 Recovery Clinic at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has been established to help people manage what has been called “post-COVID syndrome,” and enable them to return to the activities they used to do before COVID.

Meet the pulmonary and critical care team
For management of acutely ill patients, our hospital is one of the few centers in New Jersey that offers extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, in the inpatient setting. ECMO is a specialized cardiac and respiratory support system that does the work of the heart and lungs outside of the body so those organs have time to rest and heal.
