Graduation Requirements

Pharmacy Residency Program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center

  • Completion of all required learning experiences
  • Competency Areas, Goals, and Objectives (CAGOs)
    • Earn an “Achieved for the Residency” for each objective listed under Competency Area R1: Patient Care
    • Earn an “Achieved for the Residency” for at least 80% of the remaining objectives
  • Required Projects and Presentations
    • Complete 1 IRB approved residency project and written manuscript in publishable form
    • Complete 1 medication use evaluation
    • Create or revise 1 hospital policy, procedure, or protocol
    • Provide, at a minimum, the following presentations:
      • 1 patient case presentation with average score ≥ 75%
      • 10 topic discussions
      • 1 formulary monograph
      • 2 journal club presentations with average score ≥ 75%
      • 2 formal drug information questions with score ≥ 75%
      • 1 clinical competency education lecture for pharmacy staff
      • 4 pharmacy huddles
      • 1 nursing or medical provider education program
  • Staff a minimum of 42 weekend staffing shifts (every other weekend)
  • Conference Attendance
    • State and/or national professional meeting (ex: NJSHP Annual Meeting & Exhibition, ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting), with project poster(s) if accepted for presentation
    • Platform presentation at Eastern States Residency Conference or comparable forum with multi-site preceptor attendance and feedback
  • Committee Participation
    • Medication Management / Medication Safety Meeting (at least once, as a guest)
    • RWJBarnabas Health Directors and Clinical Council Meeting (at least once, as a guest)
    • Attendance at monthly Pharmacy and Therapeutics meetings and preparation of meeting minutes as assigned by RPD
