Through the program, a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals evaluates each patient to recommend individualized treatment options. The program’s thoracic surgeons utilize a variety of surgical approaches, including minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery, and advanced endoscopy, to diagnose and treat both benign and malignant diseases of the chest.

Centers of Excellence for Cancer Care

The program encompasses the Lung Cancer Screening Research Program and Lung Nodule Program, the first in New Jersey to formalize a multidisciplinary program to follow up on patients who present with lung nodules. The program follows the Fleischner Society pulmonary nodule recommendations of the American College of Radiology, and has formalized and developed software to follow patients, provide education and help them understand the importance of continued proper surveillance.

The Program is also a part of the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP) a collaborative group consisting of experts on lung cancer and related issues from around the world. Monmouth is the only hospital in Monmouth and Ocean counties and is among six I-ELCAP sites in New Jersey to serve as a screening site. I-ELCAP’s mission is to achieve early diagnosis, treatment, and ultimate cure of lung cancer through the rapid dissemination and advancement of research among a multidisciplinary, collaborative network.
