Who We Are
Over the past two decades, The Women’s Council and The Women of Wilentz have raised over SIX MILLION DOLLARS to advance oncology services at the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center. The impact of this support has been far reaching --funding state-of-the-art equipment as well as supportive programming for thousands of patients and families who have faced a cancer diagnosis.
As the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation brings these two outstanding volunteer groups together as the Leon Hess Cancer Center Council, their crucial work becomes even more impactful. Council members will continue to invest in excellence for cancer care by serving as community ambassadors and fund-raisers, focusing on cancer awareness and highlighting the resources and services of the Leon Hess Cancer Center.
Our Goals
- To raise funds, awareness and develop resources for the Leon Hess Cancer Center through community events.
- To provide supportive programming for patients during cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
- To fund state-of-the-art equipment for the Leon Hess Cancer Center.
The Leon Hess Cancer Center at MMC
The Leon Hess Cancer Center is a leader in cancer research and treatment with an array of services under one roof, making care more convenient and efficient. It features comprehensive multidisciplinary services led by a team of specialists whom patients can see all in one visit, including medical, surgical and radiation oncologists.
The Center provides a number of disease specific services including:

• Patricia Burton High Risk Colorectal Cancer Program
• Valerie Fund Children’s Center
• David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center

The Leon Hess Cancer Center offers:
- The only facility in the area designated as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons
- A comprehensive breast center that is a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence — the highest certification level offered by the NCBC (National Consortium of Breast Centers) and National Quality Measures for Breast Centers Program (NQMBC)
- The first hospital in central New Jersey to offer real-time dynamic
computer-assisted planning for individuals with early-stage prostate cancer
