Investment in the Long Branch Campus
These improvements, totaling nearly $50 million, include enhancements to labor and delivery, same day surgery and patient units; a renovation of the postpartum unit; creation of a new interventional radiology suite with new MRI units; as well as general infrastructure upgrades.
Below are the most recent upgrades completed at the Long Branch Campus:
Renovated Main Lobby and Entrance Foyer
A major renovation of the hospital’s entrance foyer was recently completed as a part of an ambitious renovation of the main lobby. In recognition of the gift from the Grunin Foundation, the foyer was named the Linda Grunin Entry Hall. Additionally, main lobby staff at MMC are now welcoming patients, visitors and staff from the confines of a modern, beautifully appointed and easily accessible reception desk that offers ease of access with a 360-degree design. The Fran and Don Welcome Reception Desk, a signature element of the recent sweeping renovation of the hospital’s main lobby, is named for lifelong Long Branch area residents, and career public school teachers, H. Donald and the late Frances Welcome.
Renovated Tomotherapy Suite and Leading-Edge Radiation Equipment
A significant equipment upgrade to the TomoTherapy Suite is allowing the Department of Radiation Oncology to provide the latest highly advanced radiation therapy in a calming, patient-centered environment.
New Garden Space for Behavioral Health Patients
A dedication ceremony was recently held for the Gloria Nilson Garden of Reflection in a secure courtyard adjacent to the hospital’s inpatient behavioral health units. It is an inviting outdoor area for behavioral health inpatients to get a breath of fresh air, in a reflective environment that encourages healing.
Major Upgrade to Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center
The Joel Opatut Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center recently was renovated with a fleet of brand new, state-of-the-art fitness equipment. Most recently, the comprehensive Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program introduced a post-COVID recovery program that is safe and effective. The goal is to provide care to post-COVID patients to assist their recovery by improving breathing and lung function to maximize complete recovery.
Convenient New Home for Healthy Lives Program
Congestive heart failure and COPD patients no longer need a wheelchair to get to the Healthy Lives office, with the newly renovated home of MMC’s Healthy Lives Program now located on the ground floor, just off of the Third Avenue entrance with onside surface parking.
Respite Space for Staff Opens
Rita’s Room is a new relaxation suite inside the hospital. This quiet space is open 24/7 to allow for staff to take a few minutes to breathe, relax, reflect, receive a chair massage, meditate and practice self-care.
Welcoming New Space for Pediatric ED Patients
The newly remodeled WhatSUP Pediatric Waiting Room and Triage area in the MMC Emergency Department is a new area for children requiring emergency care that features bright, colorful décor based on the sport of paddle boarding. From the furniture to the interactive games, this is a welcoming space for patients and their families, away from the constant movement of the adult emergency room.
Nursing Excellence on Display
MMC’s newly dedicated “Nursing Excellence” display case was built in a prominent area adjacent to the hospital’s cafeteria. Shown with special illumination is the crown jewel of MMC’s Nursing Excellence awards, the Magnet obelisk. In January 2020, MMC learned that the American Nurses Credentialing Center had conferred the prestigious Magnet® recognition as a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care.
