As one of New Jersey’s largest academic medical centers, Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) — founded in 1887 — attracts the state’s top physicians. MMC serves as a regional medical campus of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School to teach third– and fourth–year medical students. It is a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals of the Association of American Medical Colleges, and trains residents and fellows in Dental Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Diagnostic Radiology and General Surgery.

MMC has pioneered the latest techniques in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgical procedures in both general and orthopedic surgery. The Leon Hess Cancer Center is the only facility in Monmouth and Ocean counties to be designated as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, a designation that provides assurance to patients that they are receiving the highest level of comprehensive care. Monmouth partners with Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, bringing the newest and most promising treatments to MMC patients. The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center utilizes state-of-the-art digital mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI and breast-specific gamma imaging to provide patients with the highest quality breast cancer screening and diagnostic technology available.
The Eisenberg Family Center delivers more than 6,500 babies annually—the most in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The Unterberg Children’s Hospital, part of the Children’s Health network of RWJBH, provides comprehensive care for children, and was the first hospital in New Jersey to open a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which provides specialized care for sick or premature infants as well as those requiring emergency surgery.
MMC has the largest and most comprehensive behavioral health program in Monmouth County, in partnership with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. Treatment is provided to children, adolescents and adults diagnosed with psychiatric and dual disorders. Its Emergency Department offered the region’s first Geriatric Emergency Medicine unit, and has a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department and the first peer-to-peer opioid overdose recovery program in the state.
In 2026, MMC will open the Vogel Medical Campus at Tinton Falls, which will offer seamless access to comprehensive cancer care as well as surgical and imaging services. Additionally, the Anne Vogel Family Care and Wellness Center at the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown features pediatric, women’s and surgical specialty care as well as the innovative LiveWell Center designed to help community members live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
