Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Initial (Two–Day Program)

The American Heart Association’s ACLS course is totally redesigned to incorporate new science evidence and a new teaching methodology from the 2005 Guidelines. Through the ACLS course, health care providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary.

Student must possess a current Health Care Provider CPR card to attend this course.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal Course

The ONE-DAY ACLS RENEWAL is for those students with current (not expired) cards, who are comfortable with an abbreviated renewal course.

Completed registration must be received no later than two weeks prior to the course. If you do not receive confirmation and course materials ten (10) days prior to class date, you must contact the Community Training Center 201-547-6126 to confirm receipt of your registration. Please enclose or attach a copy of your current CPR Health Care Provider card and, if you are registering for a renewal course, a copy of your current ACLS card.

All incomplete applications will be rejected and returned for completion.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

New Guidelines - PALS Initial Course

The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric health care provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critical ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment, respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronization; intraosseous access and fluids administration.

Student must possess a current Health Care Provider CPR card to attend this course.

PALS Renewal Course - New Guidelines

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Instructor Course

Step 1. Core Instructor Course:

It provides a foundation for teaching and facilitating AHA courses, regardless of an instructor candidate’s area of specialization. For flexibility, the course can be delivered, 1) online (CEU credit available, or 2) on a CD for self-directing learning. Upon completion of the course print the certificate and bring it to the ACLS Discipline Specific course (Step 2).

Step 2. ACLS Discipline Specific
Prerequisites: Have completed the Core Instructor Course.
Have successfully completed an ACLS class with a grade of 90% or greater
Copy of your current BLS/CPR and ACLS cards
It teaches the student to use lesson maps and the team concept approach, along with AHA and Training Center policies and procedures, as well as, the mastery of Advanced Cardiac Life Support algorithms techniques
At the end of the ACLS Instructor Course, instructor candidates will be able to teach an ACLS course after being successfully monitored and teaching an initial class.

Cost: $150.00 for Jersey City Medical Center Employees (for books and CDs)
$300.00 for all other Health Care providers (books and CDs are included)

Basic Life Support Instructor Course

Core Instructor Course:
Prospective instructors have the option to complete this course using the internet or CD-ROM provided. On the day of the class bring the “Certificate” with you as proof of completion.
Prerequisites: Have completed a CPR for Health Care Provider class with a grade of 90% or greater (current)
Discipline Specific: BLS Instructor Course
Prerequisites: Have completed the Core Instructor Course
At the end of the BLS Instructor Course, instructor candidates will be able to teach a BLS course after successful being monitored and teaching an initial course.

ACLS-Experienced Provider

Course Description

  • The ACLS for Experienced Providers (EP) course is designed for those health care professionals that utilize ACLS skills on a routine basis.

  • This is a highly challenging, real life scenarios based ACLS recertification class for those who meet the following requirements: 1) currently certified in ACLS, 2) proficiency in BLS CPR skills, 3) currently active in providing ACLS care (ED, ICU/CCU, EMS staff, etc)

  • The premise for this course is that, if we are aware of the most common causes of cardiac arrest and can identify those patients at risk; could we lower the incidence of death by educating ACLS providers on pre-emptive interventions?

  • The ACLS-EP course is a one day, 8-9 hour course that reviews current ACLS proficiency and provides discussion for the recognition and management of four specific peri-arrest conditions: Electrolyte Abnormalities, Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Emergencies (including right ventricular infarction), Environmental Emergencies, and Toxicology Emergencies.

  • The first portion of this course will be the ACLS examination and skills check. The second half of the course consists of instructor lead workgroups and case studies. There is no final exam for the ACLS-EP program
