The Abercrombie Guild Pediatric Emergency Department
This new state-of-the-art Abercrombie Guild Pediatric Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center — a $100-million and 60,000-square-foot expansion — was established as part of the Children’s Health network of RWJBarnabas Health and has its own separate entrance from the Adult Emergency Department.
The Abercrombie Guild, whose mission has been "Care of the Sick in Hudson County" has decided to help support the construction of the new Pediatric Emergency Department. As nurses, teachers and caregivers, grounded in the philosophy of service to others, this project aligns with, and continues to fulfill the mission, vision and values of the original members’ hearts in 1874, so many years ago.
Over the past year, more than 90,000 patients were seen in the Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center; of these 14,000 were children.
The original twenty members of the Abercrombie Guild took special pride in helping the youngest, most vulnerable members of our community. This aided the group in deciding to use their assets to help finance the Pediatric Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center. They believe that the Abercrombie Guild's many members over their 148 years of service to the Hudson County community would approve.
It is both an honor and a privilege of the remaining members of the Abercrombie Guild to make this their final donation and know that the Abercrombie Guild’s legacy will live on in the state-of-the-art, Abercrombie Guild Pediatric Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center.
The Abercrombie Guild Pediatric Emergency Department is a new beginning and a lasting legacy to ensure that outstanding care is available for the youngest, most vulnerable individuals in our community.
