Adult Emergency Department
The Adult Emergency Department is under the leadership of Michael Bessette, MD, FACEP, Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jersey City Medical.
The Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center is open 24x7x365 and is designed to be both pediatric and geriatric-friendly.
As a Center-of-Excellence, the Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center, in order to help speed diagnosis and treatment, feature highly sophisticated technology, such as a central-station cardiac monitoring, fiber-optic intubation scopes, department-based CT scanners, digital x-ray photo-archive systems (PAC), on-call cardiology, and much more. Hopefully, you will never require the use of this type of technology, but isn’t it reassuring knowing that it is available right in your own backyard.
The Emergency Department is staffed by board certified/board eligible emergency physicians, who are all members of Emergency Medical Associates (EMA), one of the country’s premier emergency physician groups (www.ema-ed.com), which is well recognized for having thoughts leaders in all facets of emergency medicine, both on a regional and national basis.
A state-of-the-art electronic medical record (EMR), called Emergency Department Information Manager (EDIM) is currently in use at the Jersey City Medical Center.
Less than 20% of today’s emergency departments use an electronic medical record (EMR). EDIM incorporates evidence-based medicine clinical “best practice” guidelines to ensure the highest quality of clinical care.
For patients with ongoing health conditions, EDIM allows the ED staff to immediately access previous ED visits to quickly view previous treatments, test results and prescribed medications. Upon being discharged from the ED, all patients are provided with clear, legible discharge instructions, which includes prescription information.
