About Us

Collaboration

Collaborate With Talented Peers…

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset's 620-member medical staff represents 45 medical and surgical specialties. Many of our physicians hold academic teaching positions at medical schools in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Our medical staff has one of the highest percentages of board-certified physicians among hospitals in New Jersey.

…A Dedicated Staff….

Members of the medical staff practice alongside dedicated nursing, technical and support staff members. Many of our nurses have advanced degrees and are nationally certified in specialty areas such as critical care, basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, chemotherapy and intravenous therapy.

…And A Supportive Executive Team

Medical staff members enjoy a close, cooperative working relationship with the hospital's executive team and the board of directors. The administration includes a chief medical officer and one-third of the board members are physicians. No major decisions regarding hospital policies or services are made without physician involvement.

Technology and Facilities

Use the Most Sophisticated Technologies …

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset invests in the latest technologies to enable physicians to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. We have implemented a $10 million clinical information system software package that includes a physician order entry system and gives physicians immediate access to clinical information from their offices or portable digital assistants. Other recent technological additions include a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) for radiology.

… In State-of-the-Art Facilities

We recognize that in addition to having the proper tools to care for your patients, you need world-class facilities to match.

Academic Excellence and Quality

Work In An Environment That Fosters Academic Excellence ….
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset is an affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and operates a three-year family practice residency program. As a teaching hospital, the medical center challenges its physicians to maintain academic excellence, providing forums for research, ongoing educational programs and opportunities to share their expertise and experience with medical students and residents. Through a peer review process, physicians discuss their cases and help each other develop new treatment approaches.

….And Makes Quality the Cornerstone of Care
At Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, delivering quality care and services to every patient, every visitor, every time is the goal of each physician, nurse, medical professional, staff member and volunteer. A multidisciplinary committee continually reviews the quality of patient care and recommends improvements. A physician committee also oversees and enhances the quality of clinical care services at the medical center.

The medical center was one of the first in the state to address the quality criteria established by The Leapfrog Group, staffing our intensive care unit with a physician certified in critical care and implementing a computerized physician order entry system to reduce medical errors. We also equip nurses with wireless phones. In addition, the medical center has hosted several conferences on topics related to medical quality, bringing together health care leaders from throughout New Jersey.
