PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency Pharmacy Services

RWJUH is the only academic medical center and provider of tertiary and
quaternary health care services in central New Jersey. The emergency department
at RWJUH sees > 100,000 patients annually and includes both adult and
pediatric emergency departments. RWJUH is the only Level 1 Trauma Center
for central New Jersey with additional designation as a Level 2 Trauma
Center for pediatric patients.
The department of pharmacy provides 24/7 hour clinical coverage of the
emergency department.
The emergency medicine pharmacy team is well established and provides comprehensive
coverage of both adult and pediatric emergency departments.
Clinical pharmacy services provided include:
Bedside response to adult and pediatric medical and surgical emergencies
including but not limited to: cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, rapid
sequence intubation, stroke, trauma, and sepsis.
Prospective order verification and emergency department operational support
Drug information and pharmacokinetic consults
Review of culture results for patients discharged from adult and pediatric
emergency departments for pharmacotherapeutic issues (culture follow-up program)
In addition to patient care, the emergency medicine pharmacy team works
closely with the department of emergency medicine and medical residency
program in research, teaching, and clinical practice advancement.
