Internal Medicine Residency
at Monmouth Medical Center
Message from the Program Director, Dr. Doantrang Du
Greetings!
Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Monmouth Medical Center (MMC). As the program director, I am pleased to welcome you to our hospital and share with you what our program offers.
Monmouth Medical Center has been at the forefront of Medical Education in Monmouth County since the 1950s. We are a three-year categorical community-based program that is affiliated with Rutgers Health. For more than seven decades, we have trained graduates who excel in their fields locally and across the United States. The hospital is a full-functioning training hospital with residencies in Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Surgery, Orthopedics, Dentistry, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Pathology. We have been recognized as among the top seventy teaching hospitals in the nation by the Leapfrog Group for multiple years. MMC is ranked 29th among the fifty best major teaching hospitals in the United States by Washington Monthly. More recently, MMC was among the 148 US hospitals named to the digital platform Money's list of the Best Hospitals in America.
Our goal is to provide excellent patient-centered, evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and equitable training with exposure to diverse pathology to prepare our residents to enter private practice, academic practice, or specialty fellowships competently. Our residency program offers candidates a broad experience to be able to hone their clinical skills in both in-hospital care as well as ambulatory settings. We also provide skills development via our Simulation Lab, where residents learn how to do procedures that may benefit them in practice. Our curriculum allows residents to learn via bedside rounds, didactic encounters, interactive educational activities, and one-on-one mentoring. In addition to the traditional core subspecialties in Internal Medicine, our residents are also trained in medical ethics, psychosocial aspects of medical care, high value cost conscious care, medical decision making, and palliative care. They also have an opportunity to hone their teaching skills as educators when working with students from Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson medical school. Our residents participate in many scholarly activities that often result in research publications and poster presentations in various regional and national meetings.
At MMC, we believe in fostering an environment where your contribution and uniqueness are embraced and celebrated. Our residents come from diverse backgrounds that make up a whole panoply of experiences. We strive to be your second home during these three years of training- one in which you are supported and encouraged to reach your fullest potential.
We also take pride in the depth and quality of our faculty in general medicine and the subspecialty services where our residents rotate during their electives. The dedication of the faculty to teaching is unparalleled. Most received numerous teaching awards from Rutgers- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and were named in NEW JERSEY Top Doctors.
And as a testament to the training, our American Board of Internal Medicine's passing rate for the last three years was 97%, consistently ranked in the top 5 Internal Medicine programs out of twenty-five accredited programs in the state of NJ.
And lastly, NICHE ranked Monmouth County in the top ten nicest counties to live in NJ. There are many exciting places nearby, like our beautiful beaches and parks. Not to mention the numerous culinary establishments that are enough to satisfy the gastronomically astute in us.
Again, thank you for your interest, and please continue exploring our website for more specific information about our residency program.
