Otolaryngology Residency

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center are happy to report recent approval by the ACGME of the merger of the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency Programs. Residents in the integrated larger program will benefit from the outstanding training opportunities at both Rutgers and Cooperman Barnabas. The combined program creates one of the larger programs in the region with expanded educational and academic experiences for the residents. This is the first of its kind merger in the new RWJBarnabas-Rutgers affiliation!

The Rutgers New Jersey Medical School offers a 5-year residency training program in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery provides training in diseases of the ears, nose and throat, as well as head and neck oncologic surgery, skull base surgery, ear surgery, pediatric otolaryngologic surgery, regional cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, robotic surgery and laryngeal surgery.

Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency Programs at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School

We are now able to accept 3 residents per year rotating through 5 different sites to complete a five year, fully accredited residency training program leading to Board Eligibility. The program is dynamic and continues to evolve in order to provide residents with an outstanding educational and surgical experience, while maintaining the delivery of the highest quality of medical care to our patients and community.
In addition to the University Hospital, Otolaryngology residents rotate through the Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care System at East Orange, Hackensack University Medical Center, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and Newark Beth Israel. The residency program includes a one year of Surgical internship, including 6 months of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, followed by four years of dedicated Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery training. The rich clinical experience is complemented by a variety of didactic courses given throughout the residency program, including training in head and neck pathology, temporal bone dissection, speech pathology, audiometry, and head and neck anatomy.
