General Surgery Residency
Thank you for your interest in our training program. Effective July 1, 2020, the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center’s (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center) General Surgery Residency Program has merged with the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Surgical Residency in Newark, NJ. The new combined program, under the directorship of Dr. Anastasia Kunac, is fully accredited by the ACGME and listed on their website as: Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Program - Program 4403300198.
The new combined surgical training program harnesses the clinical, teaching and research strengths of both pre-existing programs. It has a complement of 10 categorical residents per post-graduate training year. Residents rotate to the following sites: University Hospital in Newark, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, The Veterans Affairs Hospital in East Orange, Jersey City Medical Center, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark. Many of the core faculty have appointments across multiple teaching sites.
